The Company
What began in 1969 as a specialty market idea for Rapid-Repair Concrete with the Western Company of North America has developed into a company serving five major markets for Concrete and Building Stone in Texas. Mr. Paul Reinhart and a small group of investors bought this particular part of the Western Company in 1971 changing its name to Custom Crete; he then bought out the other investors in 1975.
Mr. Reinhart developed the original company with its six employees, three concrete mobiles and one location into a company with a strong dedicated management team, 250 employees, 55+ Volumetric Concrete Mixers, 9 retail stone yards and numerous loading sites.
Although the original rapid repair market continues to provide a significant part of the company's sales, Custom Crete has expanded vertically so that today half of its sales are through its Custom Stone Supply yards and more than half of its sales are derived from its unique services which supplement the "normal" ready-mix industry's services.
Custom Crete's services are unique because of its ability to mix concrete at the job sites. By only charging customers what they actually pour and not what they order Custom Crete can save most customers over 10% on their concrete needs. Using our custom-made (continuous volumetric mixers), Custom Crete is able to mix specification concrete, in no-waste quantities, at the times needed.
Unlike normal ready-mix suppliers, Custom Crete is able to profitably service slow pours, difficult to measure quantities, small quantities, colored concrete, rapid-setting concrete, Fast Fix Flowable Fill, and extra long distance pours, all with relative ease. The customer base includes home owners, utility contractors, general contractors, city service agencies, swimming pool contractors, and customers who need fast-setting or other specialty mixes, odd amounts or off-hour service.
When Custom Crete began in 1971 it used Concrete-Mobiles built by other manufacturers. Over the years, the company through its superior maintenance program was able to identify weaknesses in those "store-bought" models. Management decided it could improve the mobiles and began to build its own custom-built units.
Custom Crete hauls most of its raw materials with its own fleet of haul trucks. Not only has this helped reduce material costs, but it has helped control the availability and quality of materials.
Today, Custom Crete has its main office, shop and fabrication facilities in Dallas with two other loading sites located in McKinney, and Balch Springs. An office and shop in Keller and a loading site in Kennedale service Fort Worth. This combination of loading sites and offices allow Custom Crete to cover the entire DFW Metroplex area efficiently.
Custom Crete moved into the Austin area in the mid-80's and began servicing the area with concrete, shotcrete and pumping services. The operation has grown over the years and now has two additional loading sites to help cover the entire Austin Area from as far north Jarrell to as far south as Kyle.
Our Houston operation was started in 1996 and has also grown to include shotcrete and pool construction services. We have two loading sites in Houston and work with specialty contractors on a daily basis to provide high quality and high performance concrete.
Our newest location is San Antonio, Texas. With a small fleet of new concrete mobiles, Custom Crete is moving in to help service the unique concrete needs in the heart of the hill country. Additional services will also include pumping and shotcrete. We are located on the east side of downtown in a great location that will provide great access to all parts of the greater San Antonio area.
We also have Custom Stone Supply showrooms in Dallas, Fort Worth, Frisco, Austin, Round Rock, Georgetown, Houston and Texas City. As the largest stone retailer in the Southwest, we bring the expertise and selection to satisfy the most demanding customer.
In July of 2000 Custom Crete and Custom Stone became an Oldcastle company. Oldcastle CRH is one of the largest construction material suppliers in the world. Their size, expertise and resources will allow Custom Crete to continue to grow and serve our core customers as well as expand our product lines and locations.
Custom Crete and Custom Stone have been built on the premise that our customers have special needs, and so we have developed unique equipment and superior customer service. We hire and train our people to be the best in the industry. Our "Can Do" attitude puts us in a position to supply materials in situations that others cannot service economically.
